Charleston police are investigating a shooting in the 17-hundred block of Kemp Avenue. A man was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital. No arrests have been made.

A former WVU professor is pleading guilty to wire and tax fraud. Dr. Qingun Sun admitted to defrauding the university and filing a false tax return.

A 55-year-old Mason County woman has died from COVID-19, raising the state’s death toll to 103. There are seventy new cases of the virus, bringing the total to over 55-hundred. Nearly ninety people are in the hospital.

Governor Justice will keep bars closed for another ten days in Monongalia County. The county remains a COVID-19 hotspot with nearly three-hundred active cases of the virus.

Kanawha County is scaling back access to courthouse facilities after employees in three different county offices tested positive for COVID-19. Public access hours will be scaled back to 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program ends tomorrow, but WorkForce West Virginia says state assistance is available. DHHR also has benefits created specifically to respond to the pandemic. Officials say that “in the absence of federal assistance, the Justice administration will do what it can to help people experiencing hard times.”

The Mountain State Forest Festival in Elkins is being cancled for this year. Organizers say it will return next Ocotober.

A Wayne man was killed in a house fire. Sixty-two-year-old Larry Rice died in the blaze on Jericho Road. It was caused by smoking while oxygen was in use.

An infant is in critical condition after a shooting in Ohio Township. It happened at a home on Double Creek Road. The baby is in critical condition. One person is in custody.
