More than three-thousand people were tested for COVID-19 at testing events over the weekend. The results are expected in a few days

There are eight new cases of COVID-19 in West Virginia, bring the total number of cases to over two-thousand. The death toll remains at 75, and the positive test rate is just over two-percent.

State tax collection numbers are due out today, and Governor Justice says he wouldn’t be surprised if they are better than anticipated. Justice says the state’s finances are “rock solid” despite a two-month shutdown of the state’s economy because of the pandemic.

Firefighters put out a large fire at a building on 3rd Avenue in Huntington. The building was under renovation, and the fire started in the elevator shaft. No one was hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Police are looking for a suspect who stabbed a man in a drug deal on Washington Street East. The victim was treated and released.

A teenager is under arrest for the shooting death of a 16-year-old Huntington girl. Tayla Johnson was shot on May 20th on 22nd Street. Two other people were taken into custody in connection to the case.

A Grafton man is charged with beheading his girlfriend’s father. Twenty-eight-year-old Nicholas Padron turned himself in over the weekend.

Hundreds of people gathered at Charleston City Hall to protest police brutality and the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Sunday was the second day of peaceful protests in Charleston and Huntington.

A southern West Virginia hospital plans to stop inpatient and ancillary services by July 30 and limit operations to an emergency department, a lab and x-rays. Charleston Police held a graduation ceremony Friday for a group of fifth graders at Mary C. Snow Elementary. The 10 students have worked throughout the year with officers to learn the principles of leadership. Each student received a diploma and a bike and helmet.
