Ohio University announced Wednesday it is postponing all spring commencement ceremonies. Those had been planned for May 1-2 and graduation recognition activities were to be on all regional campuses. The university said when it’s safe to be together again, they’ll immediately begin planning a postponed Commencement celebration.
One of the largest festivals in the state will not happen this May. The 79th annual Strawberry Festival in Buckhannon will have to wait until 2021. West Virginia has its second confirmed case of the coronavirus. The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources said the individual is from Mercer County and is being treated at home.
A felon involved in a police pursuit is under after pawning a shotgun. Thirty-nine-year-old Brian Smith was arrested in a police pursuit last week. Police obtained a search warrant and seized several firearms from Smith’s house.
A man is under arrest for threatening a Starbucks employee with a spatula he stole from McDonalds. Thirty-eight-year-old Bryan Walker grabbed the employee by the neck and threated to kill her with the spatula if an officer came any closer. Police used a stun gun to take him into custody. The woman wasn’t hurt.
Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin, and other local officials, are taking exception to President Trump’s remarks that West Virginia doesn’t need federal resources. They sent a letter to Senators Joe Manchin and Shelley Moore Capito asking for federal help, and that those resources are needed now.
The Clendenin Health Center is using a triage tent in their parking lot to screen patients for COVID-19 symptoms before going into the clinic. Symptoms include an over 100-degree fever, shortness of breath, or a dry cough, or if you’ve been to an area where you could have been exposed to the virus.
The West Virginia DMV is limiting the number of people permitted in regional offices. No more than ten-to twenty people will be allowed inside at the same time. The DMV says most transactions can be done online, or through the mail.
Charleston Town Center is reducing it hours, and some stores are closed. The mall will be open from 11-to-7 Monday through Saturday, and 12:30-to-6 on Sunday.
