Indoor firecrackers start a fire at a Charleston apartment complex

Investigators said a blaze that injured one person Saturday evening at a Kanawha County apartment building was started after firecrackers were lit indoors to scare rats. The fire was reported in the 5600 block of Noyes Avenue Southeast in Kanawha City about 8:30 p.m. Fire crews said a man trapped on the second floor of the four-unit complex was rescued and the flames were contained to a single upstairs apartment. The Charleston Fire Department said a person was taken to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation but will be okay. Neighboring tenants were moved out of the building until power could restored. The building is not a total loss and will be repaired.
