A Kanawha County jury returned a guilty verdict in the Joshua Drennen trial. He was convicted on all eight counts including the murder of a 77-year-old woman and attacking a Charleston police officer.
Police recovered the body of thirty-five-year-old Cheyenne Johnson from a deep well in the Sissonville area. She’d been missing since last Thursday. Forty-one-year-old Michael Smith is in custody and charged with her murder.
Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin is calling for mandatory training and certification for all police officers. She wants officers trained in de-escalation tactics and use of non-lethal force, and wants an inventory of all tasers, and a recommendation buy more.
