Lawsuit against drug distributors goes to trial next week

A landmark federal trial will get underway in Charleston next week. The City of Huntington and Cabell County filed a lawsuit against three major drug distributors for funneling opioid pills into small communities. Federal Drug Enforcement Administration statistics show that more than 850-million pain pills have been shipped to West Virginia since 2006.

Marshall University approves fee increase

Marshall University’s Board of Governors is approving a slight increase in fees. Out of state under grads, graduate and professional students will see their fees go up just under two-percent, but in-state undergraduate students are exempt from the increase.

Gun charge dropped against murder suspect

Police are still looking for nineteen-year-old Dekotis Thomas in connection to the death of KJ Taylor earlier this month. Court records show that a misdemeanor gun charge against Thomas was dropped last year.

WV unemployment less the 6%

West Virginia’s unemployment rate dropped to five-point-nine percent. Some businesses are struggling to find workers, and are offering incentives for people who apply. Workforce West Virginia says that with enhanced unemployment benefits extended through the fall, some people aren’t showing up for interviews.
