Police investigating west side shooting

A 37-year-old man is in stable condition after was shot in the arm and twice in the leg on 3rd Avenue near Beam Street. The victim told police he didn’t why someone was shooting at him. He started to run and the suspect kept firing. No arrests have been made.

Charleston plans to break ground on Slack Plaza renovation

The City of Charleston is set to break ground on a multi-million-dollar renovation of Slack Plaza. The three-and-a-half-million-dollar project will include new green space, a new stage and seating area, and a place for food trucks and outdoor dining. Construction is expected to start April 19th.

Capitol Steps Closed for Evaluation

The north West Virginia Capitol steps were closed Tuesday as a precaution while structural engineers try to determine if 88-year-old concrete work is safe. Last week, a chunk of concrete fell through the ceiling of the legislative proofreading room and injured a state worker. The worst case scenario would require replacing the stairs.

Charges Filed in Boone Water Theft Case

More charges have been filed in connection with an ongoing water theft investigation in Boone County. A contest deadline is approaching for West Virginia schoolchildren to raise awareness of prescription painkiller abuse. The Kids Kick Opioids contest is open to elementary and middle school students. Walmart will begin COVID-19 vaccinations

Walmart will begin offering COVID-19 vaccinations this week in West Virginia. It’s part of a federal pharmacy partnership. Retired Major General James Hoyer says there is a significant percentage of the population that lives within ten-miles of a Walmart in West Virginia, and he says it will be a great addition to the vaccination program.
