WV House passes income tax cut bill

The West Virginia House passed its own version of a state income tax reduction bill. It would eliminate income tax, but does so through a series of 150-million-dollar budget cuts. The governor’s plan calls for an increase in sales tax to cover the cost.

Justice signs Hope Scholarship bill

West Virginia is now the seventh state in the county to offer an education savings account program. Governor Justice signed the Hope Scholarship bill, which gives students a 46-hundred dollar voucher to use for private school or homeschooling.

Purple martins return to WV

Purple martins are returning to West Virginia. The first birds were seen last week in Eleanor. Purple martins winter in the rainforests of Brazil, and make an up to seven-thousand-mile migration north in the eastern United States and Canada.

Man arrested for fighting with officers

A man is under arrest for trying to steal a vehicle, and then getting into a fight with officers. He took off on foot, and officers used a stun gun to subdue him, and he continued to fight. Several officer were able to get him under control and he was taken into custody.

1 year since first COVID-19 death in WV

West Virginia has reached a grim mile stone. One year ago, yesterday, the state reported its first COVID-19 death. An 88-year-old woman from Marion County was the first person in the state to lose her life to the virus. Since then, more than 26-hundred people have died from COVID-19.

Walmart Pharmacies Added to the List of COVID Vaccine Options

Walmart will begin offering vaccinations in West Virginia this week through a federal pharmacy partnership. Seven Schools Report COVID-19 Outbreaks

COVID-19 outbreaks have been reported at seven schools. The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department said the outbreaks were reported at St. Albans High School, Chamberlain Elementary School, John Adams Middle School, Riverside High School, St. Francis Elementary School, Hayes Middle School and Cross Lanes Christian School.
