Boone County deputies said a traffic stop led to drug and child neglect charges against a couple with active warrants for cruelty to animals. The victim of a shooting Wednesday on Charleston’s West Side was a Capital High School student. The shooting was reported around 8 p.m. on Central Avenue, near the cross streets of Glenwood Avenue and Park Avenue. Police said the victim was shot in the chest and later died. The investigation continues.
The West Virginia Capitol Complex is in bloom. Groundskeepers planted nearly 47-thousand spring blooming bulbs, and around five-thousand pansies. They say in about two weeks, everything will start to look different when they start planting summer annuals.

Governor Justice is extending the legislative session by one day to pass a budget. The extension allows the legislature to run into Sunday, but lawmakers can only conisder budget related matters.
The West Virginia Senate narrowly passed an amended version of a House bill that would eliminate state personal income tax. The bill would initially lower income tax brackets by nearly half. The Interstate-64 Nitro/St. Albans Bridge project is set to get underway in the next couple of days. A ground breaking ceremony was held yesterday. The 225-million-dollar project is expected to be finished by October of 2023.
Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin is announcing a city wide cleanup initiative called the spring 2021 “Team Up to Clean Up.” A series of cleanup events will be held every Saturday between April 24th and May 22nd. Businesses and organizations can join resident to clean and beautify neighborhoods.
