Beverage Assoc. against Justice tax increase

The West Virginia Beverage Association is crying foul on Governor Justice’s proposal to raise taxes on soda. The association says the plan would hit working families, small businesses and their employees the hardest, just when they’re struggling to get through an economic downturn. The tax increase would generate over sixty-mllion-dollars.

Governor Justice was on national TV over the weekend, and says he’s please with President Biden’s nearly two-trillion-dollar COVID-19 relief package. He also talked about keeping the mask mandate in place, and says it’s prudent for 30 or 45 more days, until we got on “rock-solid ground.”

Woman arrested in drug investgation

A Meigs County woman is under arrest on drug trafficking charges. Police found a large quantity of methamphetamine and a small amount of heroin after searching 44-year-old Amanda Honaker’s home. The search warrant capped off a long investigation into drug trafficking at the home.

Manchin introduces clean energy bill

Senator Joe Manchin is pushing for manufacturing companies to focus on clean energy. He’s co-authoring the American Jobs in Energy Manufacturing Act. The bill would provide a 30-percent tax credit to companies who focus on producing clean energy products.

Bars & restaurants return to 100% capacity

Restaurant and bar owners had a good weekend after being able to return to full seating capacity inside. Governor Justice announced the return to 100-percent capacity on Friday, but masks and social distancing are still required.

Job Growth is a Good Sign

Job growth was strong in February with the economy adding 379,000 jobs. That was the largest monthly job increase since October, but even with the growth experts say it will take about two years of growth at the current rate to get back to pre-pandemic levels.

Businesses Can Receive Grant Money

A $1.5 million federal grant will help set up an emergency loan fund for businesses in West Virginia affected by the pandemic.
