WV House & Senate pass charter school expansion bill

Both the state House and Senate have passed a bill to expand the state’s charter school system. The Senate will sign off on some last minute modifications, and the bill will be sent to the governor. Justice hasn’t commented on the possibility of charter school expansion.

Elderly man injured in a brush fire

An 87-year-old Ravenswood man suffered burns over sixty-percent of his body when he fell into a brush fire. The fire quickly got out of control and burned a vheicle. He was flown to a regional burn unit.

Ohio River will fall below flood stage today

While the Ohio River has crested, it will take some time to fall substantially. The river will fall below flood stage by this evening, and most roads should be able to reopen. Conditions will improve in the backwater areas, like Barboursville, too.

Additional Trash Runs Will Help With Flood Cleanup

The city of Charleston set up a site yesterday to take supply donations and to coordinate volunteers who want to help with flood cleanup. The city also said the Public Works Department will be making additional trash runs on the West Side the next few days.
