Gov. Justice sworn in for second term

Governor Jim Justice was sworn in for a second term as West Virginia Governor. The inauguration ceremony was scaled back because of COVID-19 restrictions. Justice said he didn’t anticipate running for a second term. He thought four years was long enough, but he says there is more to do.

Man dies in Clarksburg gas pump fire

A man is dead after intentionally setting himself on fire at gas pump at a Go-Mart store in downtown Clarksburg. Investigators say the man drove up to the gas pump, got out of his car and set himself on fire. They say it was an intentional act, and the gas pump did not malfunction.

Suspect in Elkins standoff takes own life

An Elkins man shot and killed himself after a six-hour standoff with police. Police tried to serve a warrant after being notified of a terroristic threat. The home was heavily fortified, and suspect refused to leave the home, even after tear gas was shot inside. It ended when the suspect took his own life.

Vehicle crashes into Teays Valley business

A woman is recovering after she crashed her SUV into a Teays Valley business. The woman had an appointment at Charleston Blueprint and she hit the gas instead of the brake when she was pulling into a parking space. No one inside was hurt.

Confederate flag burned on Statehouse grounds

Political activist Howard Swint burned a confederate flag near the General Stonewall Jackson statue on the Statehouse grounds. Justice will appoint judge in residency case

Governor Justice is getting ready to appoint a judge that will hear the residency lawsuit filed against him. Kanawha County Circuit Judge Charles King, who was hearing the case, died in December. The residency case would fall to the appointee unless that person decides not to hear the case.

Call center overloaded by people wanting COVID-19 vaccine

Seniors trying to make an appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine overloaded the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department’s call center. People were left on hold for hours, disconnect, or unable to get through at all. There is not enough vaccine to meet the demand, and the health department only takes calls when appointments are available.
