State Treasurer John Perdue is out after 24-years in office. Purdue says he’s proud of his time as the state’s treasurer. He modernized the office, returned a fortune in unclaimed property to its rightful owners and developed a three-billion-dollar education fund. Republican Riley Moore defeated Perdue in the November election.

Almost five-hundred West Virginia Nation Guard troops will be in Washington D.C. next week to assists with security during President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration. The troops will support local law enforcement efforts. The 59th Presidential inauguration takes place on Wednesday.

Coal mining deaths down 6 years in a row

The number of deaths from coal mining accidents remained low in 2020. The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration says there were twenty-nine deaths in the country, with only five coming during coal mining activity. Two of those five deaths were in West Virginia. It’s the sixth straight year that mining deaths were under thirty.

WV PSC enters orders in Frontier bankruptcy case

Another store is closing at Charleston Town Center. Christopher and Banks is filing for Chapter-Eleven bankruptcy. The women’s clothing store says it was hard hit by the pandemic. The company is closing more than four-hundred stores nationwide, including its locations at the Huntington Mall, Ashland Town Center, and five other West Virginia locations.

Dogs found chained in abandoned house

Two people are changed with animal cruelty after officers found four dogs chained in an abandoned house in Dunbar. The dogs could only move four-feet and couldn’t reach their food or water bowls, which were empty. They were emaciated and one dog couldn’t walk. A veterinarian is taking care of the animals.

Pedestrain hit & killed on I-79

Police are investigating after a person was hit and killed on I-79. A pedestrian was struck by several vehicles near the Elkview exit. So far, no charges have been filed.
