Warner concerned about election results

West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner is continuing to express concerns about the 2020 presidential election ahead of the U.S. Congress’ certification of state electors’ votes. Missouri Senator Josh Hawley announced Wednesday he will challenge the certification process on Jan. 6, which would delay – but not prevent – the validation of the election.

800 patients hospitalized with COVID-19

The West Virginia Department of health and Human Resources is reporting over 14-hundred new cases of COVID-19 and over thirty more people have died. There are almost eight-hundred patients in the hospital with the virus, and more than two-hundred are in ICU.

COVID-19 vaccine available to ages 80 and older

WV teachers unions surprised by school reopening

West Virginia’s teachers unions are not happy with the governor’s decision to send kids back to the classroom. The leadership says it was a total surprise, and they didn’t receive any notice, nor have any input. Educators say the prefer in-person learning, but want to do so when it’s safe.

Winter high school sports postponed

Winter sports and extracurricular activities are being postponed from January 11th to March 1st. Governor Justice says there is plenty of time to get in a winter sports season and he expects vaccinations to slow down the spread of the virus.

Schools will reopen for in-person learning

Governor Justice says that West Virginia elementary and middle schools will return to five-day-a-week in-person instruction on January 19th regardless of what the COVID-19 alert map indicates. Dunbar mayor sworn in

The City of Dunbar has a new mayor. Scott Elliott was sworn in Wednesday. He’s still recovering after losing his arm in a hunting accident just over a month ago. A GoFundMe page has raised more than ten-thousand-dollars, and Elliott says he’s humbled by the support he’s received from the community.

Babysitter sentenced to 100 years in prison

a Preston County woaman will spend 100 years in prision for the death of a thirteen-month-old girl. A jury found 24-year-old Kelly Tusing guilty of shaking or hitting a toddler she was babysitting. The little girl was taken to the hospital and deid eight days later. Tusing’s lawyer says they will appeal the sentence.

Charleston considering bill to eliminate panhandling

The Charleston Planning, Streets and Traffic Committee passed a bill that would eliminate panhandling with 25-feet of a road with a speed limit of 40-miles-per-hour, within a one block radius of a highway or bridge entrance or exit, or entering into the roadway and blocking traffic to collect money.
