State Supreme Court could hear soccer case

The West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission filed a petition with the state Supreme Court to get a temporary restraining order overturned. A Berkeley County circuit judge issued the restraining order stopping the AAA high school boys and girls soccer tournament set for this weekend in Beckley over a COVID-19 testing disparity.

Kanawha County preparing official vote count

Kanawha County election officials are running a pre-canvass test to confirm the official vote report that will be released on Monday. The audit consists of over 500-pages and lists the results from the county’s 169 precincts.

WVSU making cuts

West Virginia State University is making cuts. The Board of Governors voted to eliminate sixteen positions as part of the university’s comprehensive cost savings plan. The university is implementing a hiring freeze, and will cut spending to reduce the overall budget.

Fayetteville restaurant destroyed in fire

Fire destroyed a landmark Fayetteville restaurant. It took five fire departments to get the blaze under control at the Secret Sandwich Society. The upper floor of the one-hundred-year-old building collapsed onto the kitchen below. No one was hurt.

Two people hurt in tow truck fire

Two people were hurt when a tow truck caught fire at Charleston Auto on Sissonville Drive. The fire started in a car that was being towed, and spread to the truck. Both victims are expected to be okay.

Escaped inmate captured in Delbarton

An inmate who escaped from the Parkersburg Correctional Center is back in custody. Curtis Hatfield walked away while on work release. He was captured in the Delbarton area and will be returned to the Mount Olive Correctional Complex.

Tips Wanted in Credit Card Fraud Investigation

Charleston police said they are asking the public for help in identifying a suspect in the investigation of the fraudulent use of a credit card. Kanawha County Library Closes Temporarily

The main Kanawha County Public Library branch is temporarily closed due to COVID-19. An employee at the branch that’s inside the Charleston Town Center tested positive for COVID-19. Clay County High School Closes Temporarily

Clay County schools dismissed early Thursday after an additional positive COVID-19 test at the High School. Clay County High School will also be closed today (Friday, Nov. 6), to provide time for contact tracing.

Kanawha County Remains in Yellow

Putnam County remained in orange on the latest West Virginia county alert system map, while Kanawha and Cabell counties stayed in yellow.
