Convicted felon facing drug and weapon charges

A Beckley man is facing drug and weapons charges. Officer served a search warrant and found 250-thousand-dollars’ worth of meth and heroin, and several guns. Thirty-year-old Jamal Johnson was previously convicted of a violent felony and was prohibited from having any firearms.

Hobet mine fire believed to be accidental

The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire at the Hobet mine site in Boone County. It took more than a dozen fire departments several hours to put out the flames, and smoke could be seen for several miles. The cause of fire is believed to accidental.

Rally Held to Support Police

A “Back the Blue Rally” happened Tuesday at Appalachian Power Park, hosted by the West Virginia Fraternal Order of Police. The group’s Facebook page said it was a free event aimed at supporting and encouraging local law enforcement officers and first responders.

USDA awards nearly $8 million broadband grant
