COVID-19 cases spike statewide

West Virginia is hitting new highs for confirmed cases of COVID-19 and hospitalizations. There are over 260 new cases of the virus statewide, 180 people are in the hospital, and two more people have died.

West Virginia’s unemployment rate fell to 8.6% last month. The state’s jobless rate dipped 0.3 percentage points in September. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department wants drivers to slow down in the construction zone on U.S. 35. The Mountaineer Challenge Academy welcomed its first class this week at its new location in Montgomery. The first class of cadets will consist of 72 teens ages 16-18.
