More than 100 asked to quarantine in Putnam County

More than 35 people at Hurricane High School are being asked to quarantine after one person tested positive for COVID-19. And nearly seventy people at Hurricane Middle School are being quarantined after a positive test within a soccer program. Both schools are online this week.

Man Killed in Explosion is Identified

A family-owned business in Kanawha County has identified the man who died in an explosion last week. In a post by Custom Welding & Fabricating, the family said Jeff Crockett died in the accident. Crockett ran the shop with his son, Eric, while his wife, Cheryl, took care of the office.

Kanawha County Remains in Gold on School Re-Entry Map

On Saturday’s weekly school re-entry map there were seven counties in gold, including Cabell, Putnam, Kanawha, Jackson, Barbour, Randolph and Berkeley. Drug Trial is Postponed to 2021

A federal judge has postponed a trial date in a lawsuit filed by the city of Huntington and Cabell County over the opioid crisis. The lawsuit accuses drug distributors AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health and McKesson of fueling the local opioid epidemic. The trial has been moved from Oct. 19 to Jan. 4, 2021.

Six Families Settle With VA Hospital Over Wrongful Deaths

The families of six veterans who died at the VA Medical Center in Clarksburg have agreed to settlements with the government. Five of the families reached tentative agreements ranging from $700,000-$975,000. Stop-work orderd lifted for Mountain Valley Pipeline

The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has lifted a stop-work order for most of the Mountain Valley Pipeline. Work can resume on all but 25-miles of the project that goes through the Jefferson National Forest in Virginia. The 300-mile pipeline runs from West Virginia to Virginia, and construction was halted last October over environmental concerns.
