Social distancing changes are being made at the West Virginia Lottery building. There will be a temperature check at the parking gate, separate doors will be used for entering and exiting the building, and elevators will be limited to two people as a time.
Six more people in West Virginia have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to over 21-hundred. The death toll remains at 84, and the positive test rate is under two-percent.
Youth baseball, soccer, and other summer sports can get back on the field today. Indoor sports facilities for adults can reopen as well. Coming up later this week; private camp campgrounds, and State Park campgrounds, cabins and lodges can reopen for out-of-state visitors.
Parents and students are calling on the Kanawha County Board of Education to reconsider their decision to cancel in-person graduation ceremonies. The board will revisit the issue at a meeting later this week.
An inmate at the Boyd County Detention has died. He tested positive for COVID-19, but never showed any signs of the virus. The medical examiner’s office is still trying to determine the official cause of death. Inmates and staff are being tested for COVID-19.
The man charged with shooting four people at an Ironton bar, gave police the wrong name when he was arrested. Twenty-six-year-old Tayvon Gaulds used his brother’s name. More charges are pending. All four victims suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Dozens of people showed up at the Capitol, despite the postponement of the “I Can’t Breathe WV” protest. Demonstrators showed up to peacefully protest police brutality and call for racial equality. The group then moved to the Stonewall Jackson statue on the Capitol grounds, calling for its removal.
A protest scheduled for Sunday in Charleston was abruptly postponed. Organizers said they received credible threats that may have kept the demonstration from remaining peaceful and worries over safety contributed to the postponement.
