Names Released in Cross Lanes Shooting

Eighty-year-old Jacob Smith was killed by a relative in Cross Lanes. 50-year old John Salisbury is the suspect in the shooting that happened Sunday evening in the 400 block of Lick Branch Road in Cross Lanes.. Deputies say this case will be sent to the prosecutors for any charging decisions.

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported three new cases of COVID-19 on Monday. The state’s total positive cases since the start of the pandemic is now 1,774 with a death toll of 72. The cumulative average positive cases per tests is 2.06% as of Monday morning.

Governor Justice says revenue collection is improving, and the projected five-hundred-million-dollar shortfall, will be much less. He says it’s now looking more like 350-million-dollars, and 200-million will eventually be paid by taxpayers after the July 15th state income tax deadline.

Furloughs begin at WVU

Furloughs begin today at West Virginia University. More than nine-hundred workers are being laid off for 45 to 60 days, and will save the university nearly four-million-dollars. Workers will return at either the end of June or the end of July.
