The latest data from West Virginia Kids Count shows the state is nearly last in the country for the economic wellbeing of children; dropping from 47th to 48th on the list this year. Nearly a quarter of kids live in poverty throughout West Virginia.
The City of Charleston wants to build a skate park under I-64 between Virginia Street and Kanawha Boulevard. The City has to get approval from the Division of Highways, because the land is under the interstate.

Quenton Sheffield will spend life in prison for murder. Sheffield was sentenced to life without parole for the 2017 shooting that killed a man in Huntington. He was also found guilty of malicious wounding, and other charges. He’ll be sentenced at a later date on those charges.
Kanawha County Schools are preparing for a five-day week of in-person learning starting Monday. All kids are required to wear masks, classroom capacity will be limited, and class periods will be staggered, so the hallways aren’t full.
Ruffner Elementary School in Charleston has a confirmed case of COVID-19. It’s the latest case on the Kanawha County School systems coronavirus tracking page. There are a total of eight cases of the virus at seven different schools.
