Students in Mingo County will be back in the classroom today for the first time since March. The county moved into the new “gold” category under the governor’s new colored-coded school map, allowing it to reopen.

Fayette County Health Department Closes for Cleaning

The Fayette County Health Department has temporarily closed after employees started showing signs of COVID-19. Calls are still being answered while the office is sanitized. The health department will remain closed at least until test results come back.

Four more COVID-19 deaths in Kanawha County

Kanawha County is reporting four more COVID-19 deaths, and twenty-four new cases of the virus, bringing the county’s total to over 21-hundred. The state’s positive test rate climbed to two-point-six-five-percent.

Teachers unions are not happy about changes to COVID-19 map

West Virginia teachers unions aren’t happy about the changes. They say the continued tweaking of the re-entry guidelines does not instill confidence in the system. Putnam, Fayette, Boone, Logan and Mingo were updated to gold. Fayette County, which hasn’t been able to start classroom instruction, plans to start Thursday and Friday.

COVID-19 map is more colorful

West Virginia’s COVID-19 map is getting more colorful. Governor Justice introduced a new color, gold. It will replace what was the lower end of the orange category, and schools will be allowed to hold in-person classes and after school activities, including sports.
