Three more COVID-19 deaths in Kanawha County

Three more people have died from COVID-19 in Kanawha County, raising the state’s death toll to 257. There are over two-hundred new cases of the virus, bringing the total to over twelve-thousand. The state continues to have the highest Rt rate in the country, which measures the spread of COVID-19 from person to person.

More salary cuts at Marshall University

Marshall University is implementing a second phase of temporary salary reductions. The cuts will go into effect in October and will be between one and five percent. Employees making less the 50-thousand-dollars are exempt from the cuts. Enrollment at the University is down almost five-percent.

Manchin introduces bill limiting influes over Postal Service

Senator Joe Manchin, and three other Democratic Senators, are introducing a bill to limit political influence over the Postal Service. County clarifies law regulating ATVs and UTVs

ATVs and UTVs are legal on some roads outside the city limits. Kanawha County commissioners are clarifying the county’s law regulating the vehicles. The state Legislature passed a bill in March that allows ATVs and UTVs to operate on certain paved roads if they are licensed, insured and equipped with safety features.

Guilty plea in fatal overdose case

A Charleston is pleading guilty in the overdose death of a woman in December 2019. William Campbell is accused of using meth with the woman, and not helping her when she overdosed. Campbell said he didn’t call 911 because he believed there was warrant for his arrest.

Shoplifter shoots hardware store employee

A man is under arrest for shooting a hardware store employee. The employee tried to stop a shoplifter outside of Pile Hardware when they got into a struggle and the suspect shot him in the leg. The victim is in stable condition.

Sanitary Board sending out warning letters

The Charleston Sanitary Board isn’t shutting off water, yet, but it is sending out warning letters. The Board suspended shutoffs in March, but terminations could begin again October 13th if there is a past due balance. Financial assistance is available through the United Way.

Former KRT Employee Pleads Guilty to Taking Money From The Agency

A former KRT employee accused of taking more than $1,000 from a safe/money room at the transportation agency pleaded guilty to charges this week. Timothy Rowlands of Clendenin pleaded guilty in Kanawha County Circuit Court to entering with breaking and grand larceny.
