Kanawha County is moving into the “orange category” after the rolling seven-day average of COVID-19 cases climbed to over twelve. That means schools can’t open for in-person learning. The map is updated daily, and it won’t have an immediate impact, since schools don’t open until September 8th.
A Kanawha County Judge is putting Thomas Bass on probation. He’s charged with making terroristic threats after leaving messages on the Kanawha County School district’s tip line that someone was going to shoot up or blow up South Charleston Middle School. Bass will spend eighteen months on probation with mental health treatment.
An Ohio murder suspect is under arrest in Clendenin. Twenty-five-year-old Jacob Harper is accused of shooting and killing a man in the rural area of Kimbolton. Police got a tip that he was staying with a family member in the area.
Charleston police are looking for forty-seven-year-old Shawn Skeens. He’s wanted in connection to sever commercial break-ins. There is a warrant out for his arrest. He was last seen near Pennsylvania Avenue and Washington Street.
Hurricane Laura has made landfall as a dangerous category four storm near the tiny town of Cameron, Louisiana. The storm will arrive in West Virginia late Friday into Saturday, bringing us some heavy rain, with one to two inches possible.
