The City of Charleston is lowering flags to half-staff to honor former city councilman Rick Burka, who passed away Friday morning. Burka was on the city council for ten years and retired in 2018 because of health concerns.

Charleston firefighter laid to rest

Friends and family are mourning the loss of fallen Charleston firefighter Jason Cuffee. He was laid to rest yesterday at Tyler Memorial Gardens in Cross Lanes. Funeral services were held at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. Cuffee suffered a medical emergency while on duty Monday.

Police looking for shoplifter

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a shoplifter. The suspect is accused of stealing more than two-hundred-dollars’ worth of merchandise from a Speedway on Route-817 in Winfield. Investigators are looking for a man with brown hair and tattoos on his arms and neck. Call police if you have any information.

Mother charged with baby’s murder

A Crown City mother is facing murder charges after the death of her sixteen-month-old baby. Twenty-five-year-old Joyceann Ruane admitted to shooting the baby following an argument with the child’s father.

WV COVID-19 death toll increases to 103

A 55-year-old Mason County woman has died from COVID-19, raising the state’s death toll to 103. There are seventy new cases of the virus, bringing the total to over 55-hundred. Nearly ninety people are in the hospital.
