Kanawha County Sheriff Mike Rutherford confirmed a deputy tested positive for COVID-19. The deputy has mild symptoms and appears to be doing well, according to an email from Rutherford. Anyone who had direct contact with the deputy is under self-isolation. Dr. Sherri Young with the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department is advising the sheriff’s office on protocol.

The new deaths raise the county’s total due to the virus to 35, according to the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department. Officials also reported forty-five new cases between Sunday and Monday.
