Berkeley County man dies from COVID-19

A 78-year-old Berkeley County man is the latest person to die from COVID-19, bringing the state’s death toll to 58. Seven more people tested positive for the virus, for a total of nearly 14-hundred statewide. The positive test rate is just over two-percent.

Kanawah County Library Zoom meeting hacked

The Kanawha County Public Library Board of Director’s Zoom meeting was the victim of a cyberattack. Unidentified attendees interrupted the session with pornographic images and racial slurs. Police are investigating.

J.C. Penney has announced it’s preparing to file for bankruptcy protection and will permanently close about one-fourth of its 850 stores in the United States. After operating for more than one hundred years, J.C. Penney faces $4 billion in debt and will shut down 212 stores.

Man Faces Charges After Spitting on a Nurse

Southside Bridge closing for repairs

The Southside Bridge will be temporarily closed for repairs beginning Friday. The over two-million-dollar bridge rehabilitation project is part of the city’s transportation infrastructure maintenance program.

Restaurant dining rooms will open next week

Restaurants will be able to open their indoor dining rooms starting May 21st. Governor Justice announced week-four of his reopening plan that will restrict restaurants to 50-percent of their capacity. Large specialty stores will also be allowed reopen, as well at state-operated campgrounds.
