Groundbreaking ceremony at Bluestone Dam

Lawmakers and state officials were on hand for a groundbreaking ceremony for the fifth phase of work at the Bluestone Dam. The dam helps minimizing flood risks in the New River, Kanawha River and Ohio River valleys.

City of Charleston launches book club

Mayor Amy Goodwin announced plans for a city-wide book club called, “Charleston Reads: One City, One Book.” The city is partnering with the Kanawha County Public Library and Taylor Books to create a shared experience in a socially distant way. The book club will meet via ZOOM on Tuesday evenings.

Twelve people rescued from Middle Fork River

Twelve people were rescued from the Middle Fork River at Audra State Park, and one person was hurt. The water rose five feet in a matter of minutes and trapped them on a rock. The person was hurt was taken to a local hospital, and is expected to be okay.

WV school districts working on reopening plans

Local school districts have less than a month to come up with a plan to reopen classrooms. State School Superintendent Clayton Burch says August 14th is the deadline. Tree falls on parked car

Part of a tree fell on a parked car on 11th Avenue in Huntington. City workers cleaned up debris that was scattered across the street. No one was hurt. The car was significantly damaged.

Trial delayed for woman accused in deadly stabbing

The trial of a Dunbar woman accused in a bizarre, deadly stabbing and sex crime is being pushed back to November ninth. Courtney Wallace is accused of stabbing the victim multiple times and performing a sex act on her unresponsive body. Her attorneys are challenging a psychiatric evaluation that found her competent to stand trial.

Second suspect arrested in Dunbar robbery

A second man is under arrest in connection to a robbery at the Hot Spot in Dunbar. Forty-two-year-old Joseph Campbell is charged with accessory to robbery. He initially faked being a victim of the robbery. Another suspect is under arrest, and a third person is still on the run.

WV National Guard members return from Middle East

More than fifty airmen returned to Charleston this week from Kuwait. The members of the 130th Airlift Wing were providing support for C-130 operations in the Middle East, and were deployed at Ali Al Salem Air Base as part of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
