The National Weather Service issued a flood watch through Friday morning for counties including Kanawha, Mingo, Logan, Boone, Clay, McDowell, Wyoming, Raleigh, Fayette and Nicholas. Moderate to heavy rain could cause localized flooding when combined with wet ground from previous rain. Minor flooding is possible for low lying area, creeks and streams.
The Senate Education Committee passed a bill that would allow kids who are home schooled to play sports at public schools. The “Tim Tebow Bill,” would allow students to play high school sports if they meet ACT requirements, get a physical exam, and have their immunizations up to date.
The West Virginia Student Religious Liberties Act passed through the House Education Committee, and will head to the full House for consideration. The bill would protect a student’s right to express religious freedom.
The City of Dunbar is considering a proposal to allow medical marijuana dispensaries. The city has been approached by three companies interested in coming to Dunbar. The city could collect as much as 100-thousand-dollars in tax revenue.
