New kayak ramp open on Elk River

The City of Charleston is opening a new Kayak ramp on the Elk River, behind the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. The ramp is the first of its kind along the river and cost nearly 70-thousand-dollars to build. It’s open to the public from 7 a.m. until sunset.

West Side shooting under investigation

Police are investigating a shooting on the West Side. The victim says an unknown man walked into her home and shot her in the leg and hand. She’s not cooperating with police. So far, no arrests have been made.

Arrest made in 7th Ave. shooting

A Charleston man is under arrest in connection to a shooting over the weekend on Seventh Avenue. The victim was shot in the neck and leg. He’s expected to be okay. Thirty-one-year-old Joshua Burdette is charged with malicious wounding.

Marshall postpones commencement again

Marshall University is canceling the commencement ceremony for the class of 2020 in August. There ceremony was postponed in May. Instead, the class of 2020 will now be recognized at the Winter Commencement planned for December 12th.

Record number tested at drive-thru event

The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department tested more than 850 people for COVID-19 at a drive-thru testing event at Capital High School. More than 15-hundred people were tested over the weekend, and nearly forty people tested positive.

COVID-19 cases continue to climb

COVID-19 cases continue to climb in West Virginia. There are more than ninety new cases, bringing the total number of positive cases to over 44-hundred. Nearly sixty people are hospitalized with the virus, and 24 of those are in ICU.

Former nursing assistant pleads guilty to murder at Clarksburg VA

A former nursing assistant at the Clarksburg VA Medical Center is pleading guilty to killing seven patients by injecting them with insulin. Forty-six-year-old Reta Mays faces consecutive life terms for seven murder counts. The charges and plea follows a two-year investigation into several suspicious deaths at the VA.
