Fewer road trips this 4th of July

Triple-A is expecting fewer cars on the roads the Fourth of July weekend. The pandemic is expected to keep many people at home. Gas prices are up nearly a dime across the state, but that’s about 50-cents less than this time last year.

Gov. Justice considering mask mandate

Governor Justice describes himself as “terribly concerned,” and says he’s considering a face mask mandate for all public building in West Virginia where social distancing cannot be achieved. Justice will make a decision early next week after reviewing COVID-19 numbers from the weekend.

500 people tested for COVID-19 at SChoenbaum Center

The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department tested more than five-hundred people for COVID-19 at the Schoenbaum Center this week. Four more testing events will be held next week in Kanawha County. Johnson sworn in as new Richwood mayor

The City of Richwood has a new mayor. Former judge Gary Johnson was sworn in by state Supreme Court Justice John Hutchinson. Johnson takes over a town that was devastate by the 2016 floods and is currently dealing with scandals involving previous mayors.

WVSU appoints first female president

West Virginia State University has appointed its first female president. Dr. Nicole Pride will serve as the twelfth president of the university. Pride is currently Vice Provost for Academic Strategy and Operations at North Carolina A&T State University. She replaces former president Anthony Jenkins who left to become president of Coppin State University in Baltimore.

WV National Hunting and Fishing Days canceled

The state Division of Natural Resources is canceling West Virginia National Hunting and Fishing Days, billed as the state’s largest hunting and fishing show. DNR officials encourage people to spend that weekend participating in an outdoor activity, or visiting a state park.

South Charleston Summerfest canceled

Summerfest in South Charleston is being canceled this year due to coronavirus concerns. South Charleston Mayor Frank Mullens said leaders waited as long as they could to make the decision. The festival was originally scheduled for Aug.12-15.

Driver Could Face Charges After I-64 Accident

Charleston police said charges are pending against a driver involved in a single-vehicle crash that shut down a section of Interstate 64.
