President Trump signed the Great American Outdoors Act. The bill, championed by Senator Joe Manchin, will guarantee funding for the Land-Water conservation Fund. The bill will also fund improvements and repairs for the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service recreation areas.
The West Virginia Complete Count Commission is moving up the 2020 U.S. Census self-response deadline by a month. The new date is September 30th. The response rate is still below 50-percent in around half of West Virginia counties.
Scott Cochran will not become the new superintendent for the West Virginia Schools of the Deaf and the Blind. He accepted the position last week, but has reconsidered and backed out of the position. Cochran has been the superintendent in Webster County for six years, and will remain in that position.

A Raleigh County couple is facing drug charges after deputies found a large amount of drugs and cash at their home in Coal City. Marcus and Jessica Ross at charged with heroin possession with intent to deliver. Officers found nearly three-hundred-grams of heroin, two guns, and 35-thousand-dollars in cash.
A motion to remove the General Stonewall Jackson statue from in front of the Harrison County Courthouse failed after receiving no support during a Zoom conference call. During a public comment period most people spoke against removing the statue.
Signature verification is under way to put Kanye West on the ballot as an independent presidential candidate in West Virginia. The West campaign turned in more than 15-thousand signature this week. County clerks have up to ten-days to validate the signatures.
Senator Joe Manchin is introducing a bill to prevent post offices from closing. The Protect Our Services Today, or “POST,” Act will prevent post offices from closing during the pandemic. When Manchin heard some post offices around West Virginia could possible close or have their hours cut, he stepped in.
Seven more people have died from COVID-19 in West Virginia, and there are nearly eighty new cases of the virus. That’s the lowest number of new cases in nearly a month. There are over one-hundred people hospitalized with the virus.
