Extended unemployment benefits available

WorkForce West Virginia says that if you’ve exhausted your regular state unemployment and pandemic emergency unemployment compensation benefits, you can now apply for extended benefits. The state is offering a thirteen-week extension. The state’s unemployment rate is almost 13-percent.

Marshall University offering e-course assistance

Marshall University is providing financial assistant to students who prefer to take online courses because of the pandemic. Anyone who registers for an e-course will receive emergency assistance funds to offset the e-delivery fee of forty-dollars-per-credit-hour.

Ohio County woman dies from COVID-19

An 85-year-old Ohio County woman has died from COVID-19, raising the state’s death toll to 97. There are over 43-hundred confirmed cases of the virus statewide. West Virginia’s “Rt value,” which represents the rate at which the virus is spreading, is second highest in the nation.

Officer-involved shooting in Summersville

An officer-involved shooting is under investigation in Summersville. Fifty-year-old Carl Raines fired shots at several people, and when officers arrived, he fired on them. Officers returned fire and hit Raines. He was flown to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The officers weren’t hurt.

Carjacking suspect wanted

Police are still looking for 40-year-old Timothy Walding, Jr. He’s wanted for a carjacking in Dunbar, and he’s a person of interest in an earlier robbery at the Hot Spot on Washington Street. He eluded deputies in Sissonville.

COVID-19 cases spike in Kanawha County

COVID-19 numbers are spiking in Kanawha County. Almost forty cases were reported over the weekend. That’s the highest number of cases since the pandemic began. More than 15-hundred people have been tested I the last three days, and there is testing event today at Capital High School.

Gov. Justice Wants Smaller Crowds

Gov. Jim Justice announced he is reducing the permitted crowd size allowed in the state from 100 to 25 due to concerns about rising coronavirus numbers and will close bars in Monongalia County for 10 days. Firefighters Save a Dog near Rutledge

Crews responded Monday morning to a structure fire in the Rutledge area of Kanawha County. Metro 911 said crews have control of a trailer fire that was reported just before 10 a.m. in the 1000 block of Valley Grove Road.
