WVU Athletic Deparment facing cuts

The WVU Athletic Department is cutting staff. Coaches and staff that make more than one-hundred-thousand-dollars will take a five-percent pay cut, and staff members making less than 100-thousand-dollars will see a two-and-a-half percent reduction. Sixty-five athletic employees were furloughed.

West Virginia University will furlough about 875 employees as a cost cutting measure in response to the coronavirus. The university expects to save around four-million-dollars. Man wanted in fatal Beckley shooting

Beckley police are looking for a man wanted in connection to a deadly shooting earlier this week. Twenty-seven-year-old Tremaine Jackson is wanted for shooting and killing a man in the Pet Supplies Plus parking lot Wednesday night.

Deadly house fire in Greenbrier County

A man died in a house fire in White Sulphur Springs. The blaze broke out in a garage apartment and the man left to get a fire extinguisher. When he returned he was injured and couldn’t escape. The state Fire Marshal’s Office says the cause of the fire was accidental.

Man threatens to break boy’s legs

A Kenna man is accused of threatening to break a boy’s legs. Twenty-four-year-old Tyler Smith is charged with child abuse. He was caught on video throwing the boy onto a couch and putting him in a leg lock. The child is expected to be okay.

WV’s COVID-19 death toll rises to 52

West Virginia’s COVID-19 death toll is up to 52. An 82-year-old man has died in Berkeley County. There are thirteen more positive cases of the virus, bringing the states total number of cases to over 13-hundred. The state’s positive test rate is just over two-point-two percent.

Kanawha County losing over $20 million due to canceled events

Kanawha County could lose as much as twenty-million-dollars this summer due to COVID-19 cancellations.
