Bill Would Honor First Responders with Medal of Valor

The West Virginia House voted unanimously Friday to create a Medal of Valor for first responders. Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Woody Williams urged lawmakers to create the state’s highest honor for any first responder who demonstrates an heroic act. The bill now moves to the Senate.

I-64 Bridge is Open Again

The eastbound lanes on the Interstate 64 St. Albans-Nitro Bridge are open again after detours last week. Last Thursday the lanes were closed due to a failed expansion joint, but crews completed the repair work over the weekend. The West Virginia Department of Transportation said crews worked around the clock to get traffic flowing again.

Former janitor sentenced in sexual assault

A former janitor at West Teays Elementary School in Hurricane was sentenced to 25 to 100 years in prison for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl. The judge sentenced 53-year-old Alvie Napier with the maximum sentence, because of his lack of remorse. The incident happened in 2014 in Culloden.

Fire Marshal’s Office looking for arson suspect

The state Fire Marshal’s Office needs help in an arson investigation in Nicholas County. Two homes and a mobile home were destroyed in Summersville last July, and another fire destroyed a rebuilt home on Christmas Day on the same property. The fires resulted in a total loss of the structures, with nearly 400-thousand-dollars in damages. … Read more

Trump crticizes Manchin on Twitter

President Trump is criticizing Democratic Senator Joe Manchin for voting to convict him on two articles of impeachment. Trump tweeted that he was “ver surprised and disappointed” with Manchin’s vote. Manchin says the House managers presented enough evidence to convict the President.

Governor declares State of Emergency in seven counties

Governor Justice has declared a state of emergency in seven West Virginia counties as the result of heavy rain this week. Some areas received over three-inches of rain between Tuesday and Thursday, resulting in creek and river flooding. The Tug Fork River reached moderate flood stage, and recorded levels in Bradshaw.

Water rescues in Malden

There have been two water rescues in the Malden area. Firefighters pulled two adults and a child to safety on Dry Branch Drive. Another water rescue happened at the same location earlier in the evening. No one was hurt. First responders urge you not to drive through standing water.
