A Texas Roadhouse restaurant is coming to Charleston. The plan is to tear down the old Ryan’s restaurant on RHL Boulevard at Trace Fork and build a new building. The hiring process will begin in November.

Loaded gun found in bag at Huntington Tri-State Airport

TSA agents at Huntington Tri-State Airport found a loaded handgun in a Scioto county woman’s carry-on bag. Local police confiscated the gun. TSA can issue a civil penalty that can stretch into the thousands of dollars. Last year, TSA officers detected 3,257 firearms at security checkpoints nationwide.

Flooding causes road closures

I-79 north of Burnsville is open again. High water closed the roadway yesterday. The Gerald Freeman Campground at Sutton had to be evacuated because of flooding. Heavy rain caused a mudslide and downed trees on Route-5. Firefighters and EMS were on multiple water rescue calls in the Klipstine and Slab Fork areas.

“College Bound Saturday” offers FAFFSA help

The state Higher Education Policy Commission will host “College Bound Saturday” this Saturday at 13 sites where they’ll be offering free help to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The FAFFSA is required to get financial aid for college.

Justice wants joint task force to continue

Governor Justice wants the Joint Interagency Task Force, which was established late last year to coordinate the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, to continue. Justice says the Task Force remains necessary to deal with any whiplash from this pandemic or anything else that could affect the health of West Virginians.

WV lawmakers ready to start redistricting

The state Senate and House of Delegates voted to create select committees on redistricting. The process will establish new legislative districts after the ten-year federal Census. The state is still waiting for final data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Early data shows that West Virginia will lose one of its three seats in Congress.

WV Parkway bonds sell fast

Wall Street investors couldn’t get enough of West Virginia’s Parkway bonds. The state Parkways Authority sold over three-hundred-million-dollars in bonds that will finance future highway projects in ten counties. The total sale brought in over four-hundred-twenty-million-dollars.
