The CDC is classifying the COVID-19 delta strain as a “variant of concern.” The strain is more transmissible and has a higher risk of serious illness.

New dog park open in Cato Park

A new dog park, named Emma’s Place, is open in Cato Park on Charleston’s West Side. The dog park is named in honor of fallen Charleston Police Officer Cassie Johnson’s chocolate lab, Emma. The park has play equipment for the dogs, a gazebo, and a water station.

Four arrested in burglary

Four Wayne County men are under arrest for breaking into a house in Pritchard. The stolen property was recovered. One of the suspects is facing drug charges after officers found a distribution quantity of meth in his pocket.

WV Supreme Court turns back charter school’s rejection

The West Virginia Supreme Court ruled that it has no authority to overturn a lower court’s decision denying a group’s application to become the state’s first charter school. School boards in Monongalia and Preston counties denied separate applications from the West Virginia Academy.

WV DOE looking for TASC exam replacement

West Virginia’s High School Equivalency test, the TASC exam, will end later this year. Nontraditional students will need a new way to earn a diploma. The state Department of Education is working on finding a replacement exam.
