The state Board of Education is rejecting an attempt to delay public comment on the state’s updated charter school law. Board member Debra Sullivan says it’s been less than two months since the legislature passed the law and there hasn’t been enough time for an entire review.
Carter Bank and Trust is pushing back against Governor Justice and his family’s companies. The bank says, “allegations in the lawsuit regarding negotiations between the parties are false and misleading.” The bank says it intends to collect the nearly 370-million-dollars it loaned to the Justice companies.

An Elkins man turned himself in connection to an arson fire at a trucking company over one-year ago. Forty-five-year-old Elwood Hebb is a former employee of the company. He admitted to starting the fire that caused nearly 60-thousand-dollars in damages.
A convicted felon is under arrest in Raleigh County. Police were serving a search warrant and round 170-thousand-dollars’ worth of drugs, a handgun, and nearly seven-thousand-dollars in cash. Forty-six-year-old Mario Ward is facing drug and weapons charges.
A 21-year-old woman is under arrest for stabbing another woman in the hallway of an apartment complex on Renaissance Circle. The victim is in stable condition.
Dozens of people filled the LaBelle Theater in South Charleston for a town hall on utility rate hikes. Appalachian Power and West Virginia American Water filed rate increase requests to the Public Service Commission in April. The Kanawha County Commission wants the legislature to get involved and stop the increases.
The last stretch of U.S. 35 to be widened to four lanes is expected to open to traffic by the end of August after years of planning. State fire marshals said a man suspected of setting a fire at an Elkins trucking company where he had worked, causing nearly $60,0000 in damage, has been arrested.
