A Roane County firefighter died Saturday while responding to a fire. The Roane County Sheriff’s Office and fire investigators said Mark Horwich with the Clover Volunteer Fire Department was driving a fire truck that crashed on Big Sandy Road in the Newton area on the way to a structure fire. The fire truck was on its top in the creek when emergency crews arrived. The Roane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Spencer city officials were also asking residents to lower flags on Monday through Friday in honor of Horwich.
