State Health Officials Offer New Migraine Study

West Virginia University researchers said migraines can be difficult to treat because medications have their limitations, but the school is conducting a six-month clinical trial to see if a cell-phone device that stimulates a nerve can be effective in treating migraines. The therapy involves using the device two or three times a day for two minutes on the neck to stimulate a nerve. The university said in a news release that anyone who wants to participate in the study can make an appointment with the WVU Medicine Headache Center. Participants will keep a daily, electronic headache diary during the trial and will visit the center every four weeks so a doctor can assess their migraine symptoms to see if they are improving. The six-month trial is being funded by ElectroCore, a corporation that makes the device.
