Drug Team Makes Several Arrests

State troopers have been out in force recently trying to curb drug trafficking in four coalfield counties. State Police drawn from Charleston, Beckley and Logan have been on the road the last three days in Mingo, Logan, Boone and Lincoln counties. WCHS TV reported they are not working undercover but instead rely on uniformed officers forming an interdiction team focused on stopping some of the meth and heroin pouring into southern West Virginia. Troopers say they are careful to coordinate their work with out-of-state counterparts in Ohio and elsewhere so their pressure on the road side does not interfere with undercover investigations. The team made 42 arrests in total, 25 of them felony arrests – including catching two fugitives from Wyoming and Virginia. More than $5,000 in drugs were confiscated during the three days.
