Lawmakers to Decide on the Future of Greyhound Racing

There are strong opinions on both sides about the future of greyhound racing in West Virginia. The senate is divided over Senate Bill 285 – which would eliminate the Greyhound Breeding Development Fund. Opponents are concerned with how it would affect the economy., and supporters want the money to be spent elsewhere. Greyhounds currently only race in West Virginia at Mardi Gras Casino and Resort in Kanawha County, and Wheeling Island in Ohio County. If the bill passes, $17.4 million would be transferred to the State Excess Lottery Revenue Fund.
