Marshall Professor Aims to Help With Mask Shortage

A Marshall University professor is leading an effort to create surgical masks for health care workers due to the shortage. Dr. Suzanne Straight teaches anatomy in the College of Science at the university. Straight is working with locals to make masks from high-end furnace filters. She is looking for more volunteers who are not immunocompromised who can sew. Straight is working with former students and organized a team to sew masks for hospitals in need. The masks using the furnace filters are more effective than cotton masks.
They have organized a website you can find here and a Facebook page at “West Virginia Mask Army.”
