Woody Williams is Honored With US Navy Ship

A U.S. Navy ship was commissioned Saturday morning in honor of West Virginia native Hershel “Woody” Williams. Williams is a Marine Corps veteran and is a Medal of Honor recipient for his heroism in the Battle of Iwo Jima. Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly said its a way to honor Williams’ dedication as the USS Hershel ‘Woody’ Williams as the ship is deployed around the world. The commissioning ceremony was held for an Expeditionary Sea Base ship at the Half Moone Cruise Terminal in Norfolk, Virginia.
