County Commission Could Match Hero Pay Grant

Additional pay for first responders during the COVID-19 crisis is in the works for Kanawha County and Charleston employees as city and county leaders work on a deal. Governor Jim Justice announced a $100,000 grant to be distributed to first responders in each county in West Virginia. Mayor Amy Goodwin asked the county for ‘hero pay’ that would include policemen, EMS workers and firemen in Charleston. WCHS TV reported that Commissioner Ben Salango responded to the Mayor’s letter saying the county commission has requested to match the $100,000 in support of first responders. Commissioner Salango said the $100,000 match will be discussed further and voted on in the county’s upcoming meeting on April 21.
