Counties throughout West Virginia will be receiving $100,000 grants for first responders in the coming days, but exactly how that money will be spent is up to each county. Gov. Jim Justice announced the grants on April 9, but didn’t give specific guidance, leaving county commissioners to determine who is a first responder. Along with the check, counties will receive a letter with guidelines on best spending practices. Kanawha County officials will hold a meeting on April 21 on how they plan to spend the grant money.
