Kanawha County Commissioners Ask for Stimulus Funds for Small Businesses

Kanawha County commissioners have sent a letter to Gov. Jim Justice’s administration, requesting $10 million in CARES Act funds to support small businesses. Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said in a news release the county’s small businesses can’t wait any longer. The commission would use the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act) funds to provide grants to small businesses that are struggling to remain open due to the public health crisis. Kanawha County, the largest county in the state, has more than 8,000 businesses. Of those, 75% percent (6,168) are small businesses employing fewer than 10 people. The state of West Virginia received $1.25 billion in CARES funding from the federal government.
