The USDA is extending funding for its free kids’ meals program until the end of 2020, or when money runs out. The USDA said this year, many local school districts have been given partial reimbursement for each meal they give to kids. The extension of the program keeps efforts funded. Roane County, for one, served 1,400 boxes each week at the end of last school year, and 1,200 a week throughout the summer.
