Sports Betting Provides An Economic Boost

After months with no sports at the beginning of the pandemic, teams are back on the field, and sports betting is taking off in West Virginia.
Many business owners say online sports betting will help state revenue. West Virginia is one of only a handful of states in the country that has legalized sports betting in the last few years. According to the West Virginia Lottery, the state has earned nearly $900,000 in sports wagering revenue in the last three months, and people in West Virginia have bet more than $150 million on sports since July. Companies only paid out about $5 million in winnings. The expectation is that sports betting will continue to provide a major boost to the economy.
