Concerns Grow Over Fires in Vacant Homes

With colder temperatures on the way, some of the homeless population may be seeking shelter in abandoned homes to stay warm. The West Virginia Fire Marshal’s Office says that out of 99 fire responded calls in Kanawha County this year, 41 fires were in vacant homes. State Fire Marshal’s Chief Deputy Jason Baltic told WCHS TV that fire concerns grow in winter months, not only at homes but in apartment buildings too. They recommend you report any new activity around abandoned homes.
