Many Kanawha Valley police departments are competing for the same future police officers, with law enforcement seeing a drop in applicants. COVID-19 has cased police training at the state level to be altered, delaying those graduates from working with departments. WCHS TV reported St Albans is down two officers. Their application deadline is this Friday the 13th. Nitro will be down three when Police Chief Bobby Eggleton leaves to become the Putnam County Sheriff, and two guys are retiring within the year that will put their vacancy up to five. Charleston Police are also recruiting, and they have a signing bonus.
