Putnam County remained in orange on the latest West Virginia county alert system map, while Kanawha and Cabell counties stayed in yellow. Mingo and Mineral counties continued as the state’s only red counties in the map posted Thursday by the Department of Health and Human Resources. Counties in orange included Putnam, and Jackson. Gold counties included Wayne and Lincoln. The key map is released at 5 p.m. Saturday by the state Department of Education and determines whether counties the following week can have in-person classes.
